The need to spend money doesn’t stop even when one dies. In fact, funeral services are one of the most expensive “spendings” from someone living under the poverty line. According to this article, “Dying, just like living in a costly thing.”
Funerallink is created to make your prepaid plan and/or funeral service shopping quick and easy. We are hoping that those considering of buying these services can start comparing every funeral homes’ prices and additional costs necessary in the comfort of your homes, a discussion with family and close friends and relatives with information from one website.
Pricing a funeral service is very important. A survey done by ABD.Org, the Philippines is a third world country of more than one hundred million, “with 21.6% living under the poverty line (data as of 2015).” One has to create a budget on how much he or the family is willing to spend for the funeral.
Let us understand the funeral pricing and what to expect:
- Standard Package – Also called the Basic Package, this includes the coffin, retrieval of the body from either home or hospital, paperwork that needs to be done and getting permits and copies of Death Certificate, embalming, the use of chapel (standard days and nights), flowers and a hearse. Though prices vary in every funeral companies, this basic package cannot be changed as it covers all the basic cost. Cosmopolitan Funeral Services describe this package as “standard package that starts with the transfer of the client to our care up till the final burial rites.”
- Additional Services – These are the ones that every funeral homes will offer you that they can do but you have the option to decline. Some of these services are food catering during the wake and novenas, using a limousine or horse-drawn chariot (instead of a hearse), crowd control and/or police assistance. When using the funeral homes’ chapel, some companies would offer to provide mahjong tables to keep guests and the family up and awake and entertained. These services will be added up on top of the Standard package but these are optional.
Although the two mentioned main services every funeral homes can provide, the vigil commonly called “the wake” expenses shouldn’t be overlooked. For family and friends who travel long distances to join the wake, the bereaved usually open their house for the lodging and provide make-up tents for the crowd. Three main meals per day are to be served as well, plus snacks and beverages.
Filipinos are closely knit among families and friends, and funerals and burials of a member are taken seriously. For those who don’t have prepaid funeral services ready, everyone would chip in to make the last farewell of a loved one as dignified as possible.
